84bea7a351 I change the ldap settings so pam_unix and 'files' always go in front of ldap, 
instead of the opposite. Thus, /etc/passwd has priority over ldap.

e9b2ebcb99 * Send a TCP RST packet, rather than an ICMP port-unreachable packet, 
for (apparently) open TCP connections that connection tracking 
  doesn't know about.  This prevents TCP connections to this machine
  from hanging in CLOSE_WAIT for a long time.

8ce36ffb3a * Use "ip" instead of "ifconfig" for setting up network interfaces, 
since the latter is rather deprecated and has been unmaintained
  since 2001.  Note that "ip" doesn't know about classful addressing,
  so you can no longer get away with not specifying the subnet mask
  for explicitly configured interfaces.  So if you had

    networking.interfaces =
      [ { name = "eth0"; ipAddress = "192.168.1.1"; } ];

  this should be changed to

    networking.interfaces =
      [ { name = "eth0";
          ipAddress = "192.168.1.1";
          subnetMask = "255.255.255.0";
        }
     ];

  otherwise you end up with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.255.

005ca15f64 * Firewall: add an option to allow extra firewall rules to be added. 
* Firewall: change the policy of the INPUT chain back to ACCEPT to
  prevent a lockup when the Nix store is mounted over the network
  (i.e. in our VM tests).  This is because as soon as the policy is
  set to DROP, the iptables modules that enable access to the network
  filesystem cannot be acccessed anymore.

6160100a9a * Don't run klogd in tests to prevent duplicate kernel messages in the 
log output.  (It wasn't running anyway because the preStart command
  was broken.)  Note that "dmesg -c" doesn't have an effect on klogd,
  and "klogd -o" is broken.

00f3a816a9 Adding a possibility to add more paths to chroots used by nix-daemons. The use-case is building the latest version from repository with very large checkouts. That way you do not get extra copy in store every time you rebuild, and you can implement a saner version checking than checksumming all the data

131f3c8e63 * Because cdrom_id now links against libpthread, LD_LIBRARY_PATH must 
be set when udevd calls external programs.  (The udev manpage claims
  that udevd passes its own environment variables, but this is not the
  case.)

8db3bdc4fc * In VM tests, use acpi_pm as the clock source. This causes the guest 
clock to slow down under high host load.  This is usually a bad
  thing, but for VM tests it should provide a bit more determinism
  (e.g. if the VM runs at lower speed, then timeouts in the VM should
  also be delayed).

796b48c367 * Run smbd in its own session / process group (setsid) because smbd 
now kills its process group when it exits.  Without setsid, this
  ends up killing the parent (i.e., the builder).
* Use port 445 instead of 139 because the CIFS kernel module tries
  port 445 first.  If there is an actual Samba running on the host, it
  would end up connecting to that one instead of our own and fail.

dff372db3c * Fix evaluation of the luksroot module when luksRoot == null. The 
problem is that configuration values below a mkIf are evaluated
  strictly even if the condition is false.  Thus "${luksRoot}" causes
  an evaluation error.  As a workaround, use the empty string instead
  of `null' as the default value.  However, we should really fix the
  laziness of mkIf.  It's likely that NixOS evaluation would be much
  faster if it didn't have to evaluate disabled configuration values.

9c722e474d - Added nixos-build-vms command, which builds a virtual network from a network.nix expression (also used by nixos-deploy-network)

Some explanation:

The nixos-build-vms command line tool can be used to build a virtual network of a network.nix specification.
For example, a network configuration (network.nix) could look like this:

{
  test1 = 
    {pkgs, config, ...}:
 
    {
      services.openssh.enable = true;
      ...
    };

  test2 =
    {pkgs, config, ...}:
    
    {
      services.openssh.enable = true;
      services.xserver.enable = true;
    }

    ;
}

By typing the following instruction:

$ nixos-build-vms -n network.nix

a virtual network is built, which can be started by typing:

$ ./result/bin/run-vms

It is also possible to enable a backdoor. In this case *.socket files are stored in the current directory
which can be used by the end-user to invoke remote instruction on a VM in the network through a Unix
domain socket.

For example by building the network with the following instructions:

$ nixos-build-vms -n network.nix --use-backdoor

and launching the virtual network:

$ ./result/bin/run-vms

You can find two socket files in your current directory, namely: test1.socket and test2.socket.
These Unix domain sockets can be used to remotely administer the test1 and test2 machine
in the virtual network.

For example by running:

$ socat ./test1.socket stdio
ls /root

You can retrieve the contents of the /root directory of the virtual machine with identifier test1
