8b133288ce Fix deprecation warnings
There was an error that caused deprecation warnings in VTK-m to be
suppressed, which meant that many uses of deprecated features went
unnoticed. This fixes those deprecation warnings.

The majority of the warnings were caused by the use of the deprecated
`Cast`, `CopyTo`, and `ResetTypes` methods of `UnknownArrayHandle` (or
`VariantArrayHandle`). Both `Cast` and `CopyTo` have been subsumed by
`AsArrayHandle` (to make the functionality more clear). `ResetTypes` now
requires a second template argument to define the storage types to try.

Also fixed some issues with `SerializableField` being deprecated.
This class is no longer necessary because `Field` can now be directly
serialized.

11a4c9867e Change Field to hold UnknownArrayHandle rather than VariantArrayHandle
The `VariantArrayHandle` will soon be deprecated for its replacement of
`UnknownArrayHandle`. Thus, `Field` and related classes should start
using the new `UnknownArrayHandle`.

5ef4e7eeee Make new style of ArrayHandle the expected style
What was previously declared as `ArrayHandleNewStyle` is now just the
implementation of `ArrayHandle`. The old implementation of `ArrayHandle`
has been moved to `ArrayHandleDeprecated`, and `ArrayHandle`s still
using this implementation must declare `VTKM_ARRAY_HANDLE_DEPRECATED` to
use it.

77f9ae653d Support ArrayHandleSOA only for Vec value types
Previously, `ArrayHandleSOA` worked with any value type that supported
`VecTraits`. That means that `ArrayHandleSOA` worked with scalar types
like `Float32`. However, for scalar types, the behavior is essentially
the same as `ArrayHandleBasic`, but with lots of extra templating and
code generation.

Although there is nothing _wrong_ with allowing `ArrayHandleSOA` holding
a scalar, there is no real reason to either (other than likely template
convenience). Generally, there is nothing wrong with supporting it, but
if you want to support `ArrayHandleSOA` in places where types are not
known (e.g. `Field`), then templating tends to iterate over the cross of
all supported types with all supported storage. That means such code
will automatically generate a bunch of code for `ArrayHandleSOA` with
scalars even if there is no reason for those code paths.

So, we can just disable the use of `ArrayHandleSOA` with scalars to
allow us to use `ArrayHandleSOA` as a default storage without creating
all these useless code paths.

7dd9b4252a Add UnknownArrayHandle::ExtractArrayFromComponents

Also removed the `Read/WritePortalForBaseComponentType` method

`ExtractArrayFromComponents`.

932c8e5ec0 Wrap test_equal_ArrayHandles into a precompiled library
The previous implementation of test_equal_ArrayHandles was several
templates that had to be resolved by any test that used them, which
could be costly for unknown array types. Simplify this a bit by moving
the implementation of testing unknown arrays into a library.

Another advantage of the new implementation is that is handles more
cases. Thus, you should not need to `ResetTypes` on the unknown/
uncertain arrays.

5610d674d8 Print TestEqualResult messages in VTK_TEST_ASSERT
Some of the `test_equal` functions return a `TestEqualResult`
instead of a `bool` to capture more information about what
the error was. Unfortunately, using this was awkward because
you couldn't just call the `test_equal_*` inside of a
`VTKM_TEST_ASSERT`. Rather, you would have to do the comparison
and then check it.

This change adds an overload to `VTKM_TEST_ASSERT` that specifically
takes a `TestEqualResult`, checks its condition, and prints out
the contained messages. Thus, your command can just look like
`VTKM_TEST_ASSERT(test_equal_ArrayHandles(...));` and it will
provide the additional information.

0f24f82dad Disable resizing of ArrayHandleStride
The typical use case of `ArrayHandleStride` is to flexibly point into
another array, often looking at a single component in an array. It is
typical that multiple things will be accessing the same array, and bad
things could happen as they all try to resize. There was some code to
try to figure out what the size of the original array was, but it was
fragile.

It is safer for now to disable the behavior altogether. If a use case
pops up, we can reintroduce the code.

760553725c Add ArrayExtractComponent function
`ArrayExtractComponent` allows you to get a component of an array.
Unlike `ArrayHandleExtractComponent`, the type you get is always the
same: an `ArrayHandleStride`. This way, you can get an array that
contains the data of an extracted component with less templating and
potentially dramatically reduce the amount of code generated (although
some runtime integer arithmetic is added).

7811cc4b1e Add standard support for read-only storage
Many of the fancy `ArrayHandle`s are read-only and therefore connot
really create write portals. Likewise, many `ArrayHandle`s (both read-
only and read/write) have no way to resize themselves. In this case,
implementing the `CreateWritePortal` and `ResizeBuffers` methods in the
`Storage` class was troublesome. Mostly they just threw an exception,
but they also sometimes had to deal with cases where the behavior was
allowed.

To simplify code for developers, this introduces a pair of macros:
`VTKM_STORAGE_NO_RESIZE` and `VTKM_STORAGE_NO_WRITE_PORTAL`. These can
be declared in a `Storage` implementation when the storage has no viable
way to resize itself and create a write portal, respectively.

Having boilerplate code for these methods also helps work around
expected behavior for `ResizeBuffers`. `ResizeBuffers` should silently
work when resizing to the same size. Also `ResizeBuffers` should behave
well when resizing to 0 as that is what `ReleaseResources` does.

a6b9d5c497 Add tests for ReleaseResources of fancy arrays
The `ReleaseResources` method should work for all arrays (even if it
effectively does not do anything). However, the implementation of
`ReleaseResources` is generally to call `Allocate` with 0. Several fancy
arrays balk at this because it is resizing a read-only array. There
should be an exception for this.

90050b96e4 Remove ArrayManagerExecution
This class was used indirectly by the old `ArrayHandle`, through
`ArrayHandleTransfer`, to move data to and from a device. This
functionality has been replaced in the new `ArrayHandle`s through the
`Buffer` class (which can be compiled into libraries rather than make
every translation unit compile their own template).

This commit removes `ArrayManagerExecution` and all the implementations
that the device adapters were required to make. None of this code was in
any use anymore.

35ca89531c Simplify ArrayHandleSwizzle
As we update the `ArrayHandle`s to the new buffer style, simplify
`ArrayHandleSwizzle` by implementing it on top of
`ArrayHandleTransform`. Also, introduce some C++11 template concepts to
handle variable arguments better.

In this conversion, some features have been removed. Previously if the
swizzle dropped some components, you were still allowed to write to the
array. This would be an in place write that would only update the passed
components. This feature has been removed and if any components are
dropped, the array becomes read only. If all components are swizzled,
then the array becomes writable (through templating).

Another lost feature is that the swizzle map is no longer checked for
correctness. The array handle just assumes that the indices are correct.

It should be noted that it does not look like `ArrayHandleSwizzle` is
actually used anywhere. If it is not used by any customers, we may
want to consider deprecating the class.

fb130d42de Remove test for ArrayHandleCompositeVector with bad lengths
The old version of `ArrayHandleCompositeVector` would check (at
construction) to make sure that all the arrays had the same length. This
check has been removed because (1) it did not always catch all problems
(such as if the input arrays change), (2) debug builds check for out-of-
range array accesses anyway, and (3) it required a lot of extra template
expansion.

Because that check has been removed, also remove the part of the
`ArrayHandleCompositeVector` test that checks this check.

7eaedfe84b Reduce compiler memory usage by removing auto hxx inclusion
A large portion of the VTK-m filters are now compiled into the
vtkm_filter library. These pre-built filters now don't include
the respective hxx file to remove the amount of template
instantiation users do.

To verify that this removal reduces compiler memory ( and maybe time)
I profiled the compiler while it building filter tests in debug mode.

d82fc92a10 Fix for serializable type names that change base C types
MR !2311 fixed an issue where some base C types were not recognized by
`SerializableTypeString`. However, the fix was such that different types
with the same layout had the same string. For example `char` and
`signed char` both were given the string `I8`. That meant that the
serialization/deseralization would work, but the deserialization could
change the type. That could cause problems if two arrays were expected
to have the same type but did not.

This change undoes much of MR !2311 and redoes it so that the types are
correct.

7d681fb585 Deprecate templated versions of Field::GetRange
Instead, always use precompiled versions of range computing. This means
you won't be able to specify the type. Currently, types are limited to
scalars vecs up to size 4.

The main motivation for this change is to allow you to include Field.h
with a non-device compiler. This is an important feature for our
customers.

I plan in the future to implement a mechanism to pull out a component of
most ArrayHandle's as a single array. This would enable us to support a
precompiled version that can compute the range of arbitrarily sized
Vecs.

28ecf3636d Change interface of atomic compare and swap
The old atomic compare and swap operations (`vtkm::AtomicCompareAndSwap`
and `vtkm::exec::AtomicArrayExecutionObject::CompareAndSwap`) had an
order of arguments that was confusing. The order of the arguments was
shared pointer (or index), desired value, expected value. Most people
probably assume expected value comes before desired value. And this
order conflicts with the order in the `std` methods, GCC atomics, and
Kokkos.

Change the interface of atomic operations to be patterned off the
`std::atomic_compare_exchange` and `std::atomic<T>::compare_exchange`
methods. First, these methods have a more intuitive order of parameters
(shared pointer, expected, desired). Second, rather than take a value
for the expected and return the actual old value, they take a pointer to
the expected value (or reference in `AtomicArrayExecutionObject`) and
modify this value in the case that it does not match the actual value.
This makes it harder to mix up the expected and desired parameters.
Also, because the methods return a bool indicating whether the value was
changed, there is an additional benefit that compare-exchange loops are
implemented easier.

For example, consider you want to apply the function `MyOp` on a
`sharedValue` atomically. With the old interface, you would have to do
something like this.

```cpp
T oldValue;
T newValue;
do
{
  oldValue = *sharedValue;
  newValue = MyOp(oldValue);
} while (vtkm::AtomicCompareAndSwap(sharedValue, newValue, oldValue) != oldValue);
```

With the new interface, this is simplfied to this.

```cpp
T oldValue = *sharedValue;
while (!vtkm::AtomicCompareExchange(sharedValue, &oldValue, MyOp(oldValue));
```

2e918c58dc Move ColorTable mapping to its own header
We would really like to be able to include `vtkm::cont::ColorTable` in
such a way that you don't have to compile device code (unless you are
actually compiling functions for the device). Thus, the `Map` functions
of `ColorTable` were in a special `ColorTable.hxx` that contains the
"implementation" for `ColorTable`.

That is confusing to many users. It is more clear to simply have `.h`
headers that do a specific thing. To achieve these two goals, the `Map`
functionality of `ColorTable` is separated out into its own header file.
So you don't need to be using a device compiler just to use `ColorTable`
(including `ColorTable.h`), but you do need to use a device compiler if
mapping values to colors (including `ColorTableMap.h`).

9465d26110 Adjust TransferFunction worklet to get color table as ExecObj argument
Previously, the `TransferFunction` worklet required you to call
`PrepareForExecution` on the `ColorTable` and give that to the
constructor. Bad things can happen if the `ColorTable` used in the
constructor does not match the device the worklet actually gets invoked
on. Change this to make the `ColorTable` a worklet argument of type
`ExecObj`. The dispatcher will automatically call
`ColorTable::PrepareForInput` and guarantee that the devices match.

11996f133f Remove virtual methods from ColorTable
Virtual methods are being deprecated, so remove their use from the
ColorTable classes. Instead of using a virtual method to look up a value
in the ColorTable, we essentially use a switch statement. This change
also simplified the code quite a bit.

The execution object used to use pointers to handle the virtual objects.
That is no longer necessary, so a simple `vtkm::exec::ColorTable` is
returned for execution objects. (Note that this `ColorTable` contains
pointers that are specific for the particular device.) This is a non-
backward compabible change. However, the only place (outside of the
`ColorTable` implementation itself) was a single worklet for converting
scalars to colors (`vtkm::worklet::colorconversion::TransferFunction`).
This is unlikely to affect anyone.

I also "fixed" some names in enum structs. There has been some
inconsistencies in VTK-m on whether items in an enum struct are
capitolized or camel case. We seem to moving toward camel case, so
deprecate some old names.

9b62c9eef1 Enable storing variable-sized Vecs in UnknownArrayHandle
One of the features of `UnknownArrayHandle` is that it allows you to
query how many `Vec` components each value has without resolve the type
of the array. The functionality to implement this failed if you tried to
store an `ArrayHandle` that stored `Vec`-like objects with `Vec` sizes
that varied from value to value (i.e. an `ArrayHandleGroupVecVariable`).

Storing such an array in `UnknownArrayHandle` might not be the best
idea, but it should probably work. This change allows you to store such
an array. If you try to query the number of components, you will get 0.

63ef84ed78 Optionally remove all use of ArrayHandleVirtual
As we remove more and more virtual methods from VTK-m, I expect several
users will be interested in completely removing them from the build for
several reasons.

1. They may be compiling for hardware that does not support virtual
methods.
2. They may need to compile for CUDA but need shared libraries.
3. It should go a bit faster.

To enable this, a CMake option named `VTKm_NO_DEPRECATED_VIRTUAL` is
added. It defaults to `OFF`. But when it is `ON`, none of the code that
both uses virtuals and is deprecated will be built.

Currently, only `ArrayHandleVirtual` is deprecated, so the rest of the
virtual classes will still be built. As we move forward, more will be
removed until all virtual method functionality is removed.

571aa9f3d7 Simplify getting test file names
The testing helper class provided a method named `GetTestDataBasePath`
that returned the base path to all the data files stored in the VTK-m
repo. This is fine, but it was a little cumbersome to build filenames.

To make things easier, there is now a new method named `DataPath` that
takes a string of the filename (or, rather, subpath) to the file in that
directory and automatically builds the path to it.

4345fe26b0 Store the number of bits of a BitField in the Buffer's metadata
The number of bits in a `BitField` cannot be directly implied from the
size of the buffer (because the buffer gets padded to the nearest sized
word). Thus, the `BitField stored the number of bits in its own
internals.

Unfortunately, that caused issues when passing the `BitField` data
between it and an `ArrayHandleBitField`. If the `ArrayHandleBitField`
resized itself, the `BitField` would not see the new size because it
ignored the new buffer size.

To get around this problem, `BitField` now declares its own
`BufferMetaData` that stores the number of bits. Now, since the number
of bits is stored in the `Buffer` object, it is sufficient to just share
the `Buffer` to synchronize all of the state.

13056b3af5 Deprecate AtomicInterfaceControl and AtomicInterfaceExecution
Now that we have the functions in `vtkm/Atomic.h`, we can deprecate (and
eventually remove) the more cumbersome classes `AtomicInterfaceControl`
and `AtomicInterfaceExecution`.

Also reversed the order of the `expected` and `desired` parameters of
`vtkm::AtomicCompareAndSwap`. I think the former order makes more sense
and matches more other implementations (such as `std::atomic` and the
GCC `__atomic` built ins). However, there are still some non-deprecated
classes with similar methods that cannot easily be switched. Thus, it's
better to be inconsistent with most other libraries and consistent with
ourself than to be inconsitent with ourself.

d3503bfaba Implement AtomicInterfaceControl/Execution with free functions
Now that we have atomic free functions (e.g. `vtkm::AtomicAdd()`), we no
longer need special implementations for control and each execution
device. (Well, technically we do have special implementations for each,
but they are handled with compiler directives in the free functions.)

Convert the old atomic interface classes (`AtomicInterfaceControl` and
`AtomicInterfaceExecution`) to use the new atomic free functions. This
will allow us to test the new atomic functions everywhere that atomics
are used in VTK-m.

Once verified, we can deprecate the old atomic interface classes.

d1a4aecc59 Improvements to moving data into ArrayHandle
We have made several improvements to adding data into an `ArrayHandle`.

## Moving data from an `std::vector`

For numerous reasons, it is convenient to define data in a `std::vector`
and then wrap that into an `ArrayHandle`. It is often the case that an
`std::vector` is filled and then becomes unused once it is converted to an
`ArrayHandle`. In this case, what we really want is to pass the data off to
the `ArrayHandle` so that the `ArrayHandle` is now managing the data and
not the `std::vector`.

C++11 has a mechanism to do this: move semantics. You can now pass
variables to functions as an "rvalue" (right-hand value). When something is
passed as an rvalue, it can pull state out of that variable and move it
somewhere else. `std::vector` implements this movement so that an rvalue
can be moved to another `std::vector` without actually copying the data.
`make_ArrayHandle` now also takes advantage of this feature to move rvalue
`std::vector`s.

There is a special form of `make_ArrayHandle` named `make_ArrayHandleMove`
that takes an rvalue. There is also a special overload of
`make_ArrayHandle` itself that handles an rvalue `vector`. (However, using
the explicit move version is better if you want to make sure the data is
actually moved.)

## Make `ArrayHandle` from initalizer list

A common use case for using `std::vector` (particularly in our unit tests)
is to quickly add an initalizer list into an `ArrayHandle`. Now you can
by simply passing an initializer list to `make_ArrayHandle`.

## Deprecated `make_ArrayHandle` with default shallow copy

For historical reasons, passing an `std::vector` or a pointer to
`make_ArrayHandle` does a shallow copy (i.e. `CopyFlag` defaults to `Off`).
Although more efficient, this mode is inherintly unsafe, and making it the
default is asking for trouble.

To combat this, calling `make_ArrayHandle` without a copy flag is
deprecated. In this way, if you wish to do the faster but more unsafe
creation of an `ArrayHandle` you should explicitly express that.

This requried quite a few changes through the VTK-m source (particularly in
the tests).

## Similar changes to `Field`

`vtkm::cont::Field` has a `make_Field` helper function that is similar to
`make_ArrayHandle`. It also features the ability to create fields from
`std::vector`s and C arrays. It also likewise had the same unsafe behavior
by default of not copying from the source of the arrays.

That behavior has similarly been depreciated. You now have to specify a
copy flag.

The ability to construct a `Field` from an initializer list of values has
also been added.

b1f648bfdf Remove gcc warning about static declared function
While compiling UnitTestVariantArrayHandle, some versions of gcc
(between 6 and 8, I think) gave a warning like the following:

```
../vtkm/cont/StorageVirtual.h:227:12: warning: 'vtkm::Id vtkm::cont::internal::detail::StorageVirtualImpl<T, S>::GetNumberOfValues() const [with T = std::__cxx11::basic_string<char>; S = vtkm::cont::StorageTagImplicit<{anonymous}::UnusualPortal<std::__cxx11::basic_string<char> > >]' declared 'static' but never defined [-Wunused-function]
```

This warning makes no sense because it is refering to a method that is
not declared static. (In fact, it overrides a virtual method.)

I believe this is an obscure bug in these versions of gcc. I found a
[stackoverflow post] that seems to have the same problem, but no
workaround was found.

The warning originated from code that had little effect. It was part of
a test with a custom ArrayHandle storage type that was already disabled
for other reasons. Just removed the code.

We are moving to deprecate `ArrayHandleVirtual`, so we are removing the

The big reason to make this change now (as opposed to later when

be7f06bbe7 CoordinateSystem data is VariantArrayHandle
`CoordinateSystem` differed from `Field` in that its `GetData`
method returned an `ArrayHandleVirtualCoordinates` instead of
a `VariantArrayHandle`. This is probably confusing since
`CoordianteSystem` inherits `Field` and has a pretty dramatic
difference in this behavior.

In preparation to deprecate `ArrayHandleVirtualCoordinates`, this
changes `CoordiantSystem` to be much more like `Field`. (In the
future, we may change the `CoordinateSystem` to point to a `Field`
rather than be a special `Field`.)

A method named `GetDataAsMultiplexer` has been added to
`CoordinateSystem`. This method allows you to get data from
`CoordinateSystem` as a single array type without worrying
about creating functors to handle different types and without
needing virtual methods.

This appears to be a bug in either nvcc or Thrust. I believe it is
related to the following reported issues:

* https://github.com/thrust/thrust/issues/928
* https://github.com/thrust/thrust/issues/1044

Work around this problem by making a special condition for calling
`Reduce` with an `ArrayHandleMultiplexer` that calls the generic
algorithm in `DeviceAdapterAlgorithmGeneral` instead of the algorithm in
Thrust.

a47fd42bc1 Pin user provided memory in ArrayHandle
Often when a user gives memory to an `ArrayHandle`, she wants data to be
written into the memory given to be used elsewhere. Previously, the
`Buffer` objects would delete the given buffer as soon as a write buffer
was created elsewhere. That was a problem if a user wants VTK-m to write
results right into a given buffer.

Instead, when a user provides memory, "pin" that memory so that the
`ArrayHandle` never deletes it.

8f7b0d18be Add Buffer class
The buffer class encapsulates the movement of raw C arrays between
host and devices.

The `Buffer` class itself is not associated with any device. Instead,
`Buffer` is used in conjunction with a new templated class named
`DeviceAdapterMemoryManager` that can allocate data on a given
device and transfer data as necessary. `DeviceAdapterMemoryManager`
will eventually replace the more complicated device adapter classes
that manage data on a device.

The code in `DeviceAdapterMemoryManager` is actually enclosed in
virtual methods. This allows us to limit the number of classes that
need to be compiled for a device. Rather, the implementation of
`DeviceAdapterMemoryManager` is compiled once with whatever compiler
is necessary, and then the `RuntimeDeviceInformation` is used to
get the correct object instance.

99e14ab8a6 Add proper enqueuing of Tokens for ArrayHandle
An issue that was identified for the thread safety of `ArrayHandle` is
that if several threads are waiting to use an `ArrayHandle`, there might
be an expectation of the order in which the operations happen. For
example, if one thread is modifying the contents of an `ArrayHandle` and
another is reading those results, we would need the first one to start
before the second one.

To solve this, a queue is added to `ArrayHandle` such that when waiting
to read or write an `ArrayHandle` the `Token` has to be at the top of
the queue in addition to other requirements being met.

Additionally, an `Enqueue` method is added to add a `Token` to the queue
without blocking. This allows a control thread to queue the access and
then spawn a thread where the actual work will be done. As long as
everything is enqueued on the main thread, the operations will happen in
the expected order.

72cd0107ee Deprecate Execute with policy
The version of `Filter::Execute` that takes a policy as an argument is now
deprecated. Filters are now able to specify their own fields and types,
which is often why you want to customize the policy for an execution. The
other reason is that you are compiling VTK-m into some other source that
uses a particular types of storage. However, there is now a mechanism in
the CMake configuration to allow you to provide a header that customizes
the "default" types used in filters. This is a much more convenient way to
compile filters for specific types.

One thing that filters were not able to do was to customize what cell sets
they allowed using. This allows filters to self-select what types of cell
sets they support (beyond simply just structured or unstructured). To
support this, the lists `SupportedCellSets`, `SupportedStructuredCellSets`,
and `SupportedUnstructuredCellSets` have been added to `Filter`. When you
apply a policy to a cell set, you now have to also provide the filter.

3b55797d41 replaces Dataset fields vector to a map
This refactor aims to increase the performance of
AddField / Getfield at the expense of memory usage and
some bits of performances when only few fields are used

Moving to non-contiguous memory will impact cpu cache benefits,
however, since each of the Field has again another pointer to
its actual data, this benefits where actually just small.

Also the choice of map v.s. unordered_map is about the number of
elements, very likely few rehashing happenings from until <100

This will also reduce the memory fragmentation caused by vectors.

The `ArrayHandleStreaming` class stems from an old research project
experimenting with bringing data from an `ArrayHandle` in parts and

limited contexts. Thus, it is not actually used today. Plus, the feature
requires global indexing to be permutated throughout the worklet
dispatching classes of VTK-m for no further reason.

Because it is not really used, there are other more promising approaches
on the horizon, and it makes further scheduling improvements difficult,
we are removing this functionality.

dc112b5169 Enable changing policy used for library compiles
Previously, the PolicyDefault used to compile all the filters was hard-
coded. The problem was that if any external project that depends on VTK-
m needs a different policy, it had to recompile everything in its own
translation units with a custom policy.

This change allows an external project provide a simple header file that
changes the type lists used in the default policy. That allows VTK-m to
compile the filters exactly as specified by the external project.

10e8a4a7f9 Remove locking control ArrayPortals
Previously, when a ReadPortal or a WritePortal was returned from an
ArrayHandle, it had wrapped in it a Token that was attached to the
ArrayHandle. This Token would prevent other reads and writes from the
ArrayHandle.

This added safety in the form of making sure that the ArrayPortal was
always valid. Unfortunately, it also made deadlocks very easy. They
happened when an ArrayPortal did not leave scope immediately after use
(which is not all that uncommon).

Now, the ArrayPortal no longer locks up the ArrayHandle. Instead, when
an access happens on the ArrayPortal, it checks to make sure that
nothing has happened to the data being accessed. If it has, a fatal
error is reported to the log.

When `ArrayPortalToken::Detach` was called, the contained `Token` was

53c17a6876 Release locks in ArrayHandleVirtual control portals
This fixes an issue where getting a `ReadPortal` or a `WritePortal` from
an `ArrayHandleVirtual` could cause a deadlock from a held token even if
the returned portal was detached or destroyed.

The problem was that `ArrayHandleVirtual` was keeping a reference to the
`ArrayPortal` from the concrete array. This was because the returned
`ArrayPortalRef`, which was designed to work on both control and
execution environments, had no good way to destroy the portal. This
meant that the `ArrayHandleVirtual` was caching a copy of the concrete
array's portal. This was not a great idea before because the array could
get invalidated. It is worse now because it keeps the concrete array
locked.

Fixed the problem by subclassing `vtkm::ArrayPortalRef` to make a
control-specific version that will delete the concrete portal on its own
destruction.

8ddde979f0 ArrayPortalToIterators gets custom iterator from ArrayPortalToken
Because ArrayPortalToken does not have an IteratorType,
ArrayPortalToIterators assumed it had to wrap it in an

813f5a422f Fixup custom portal iterator logic.
The convenience functions `ArrayPortalToIteratorBegin()` and
`ArrayPortalToIteratorEnd()` wouldn't detect specializations of
`ArrayPortalToIterators<PortalType>` since the specializations aren't
visible when the `Begin`/`End` functions are declared.

Since the CUDA iterators rely on a specialization, the convenience
functions would not compile on CUDA.

Now, instead of specializing `ArrayPortalToIterators` to provide custom
iterators for a particular portal, the portal may advertise custom
iterators by defining `IteratorType`, `GetIteratorBegin()`, and
`GetIteratorEnd()`. `ArrayPortalToIterators` will detect such portals
and automatically switch to using the specialized portals.

This eliminates the need for the specializations to be visible to the
convenience functions and allows them to be usable on CUDA.

2ca37707e0 Update logging for enabled devices
The previous implementation of `RuntimeDeviceTracker` occasionally
outputted a log at level `Info` about devices being enabled or disabled.
The problem was that the information given was inconsistent (so it would
sometimes announce one change but not announce a different corrective
change). This could cause weird confusions. For example, when you used a
`ColorTable`, it would use a `ScopedRuntimeDeviceTracker` to temporarily
force the device to `Serial`. The log will just tell you that the device
was forced to `Serial` but never tell you that the devices where
restored to include actual parallel devices.

This change helps correct these with the following changes:

* Added a new log level, `DevicesEnabled`, that is a higher level than
  `Info`. All logging from `RuntimeDeviceTracker` goes to this log
  level.
* Change the logging output of `RuntimeDeviceTracker` to output a list
  of currently enabled devices whenever a change happens. That way you
  don't have to guess what happend for each change.
* Change `ScopedRuntimeDeviceTracker` to log whenever the scope is
  entered or left.

63050f68fc MultiBlock renamed to PartitionedDataSet
The `MultiBlock` class has been renamed to `PartitionedDataSet`, and its API
has been refactored to refer to "partitions", rather than "blocks".
Additionally, the `AddBlocks` method has been changed to `AppendPartitions` to
more accurately reflect the operation performed. The associated
`AssignerMultiBlock` class has also been renamed to
`AssignerPartitionedDataSet`.

This change is motivated towards unifying VTK-m's data model with VTK. VTK has
started to move away from `vtkMultiBlockDataSet`, which is a hierarchical tree
of nested datasets, to `vtkPartitionedDataSet`, which is always a flat vector
of datasets used to assist geometry distribution in multi-process environments.
This simplifies traversal during processing and clarifies the intent of the
container: The component datasets are partitions for distribution, not
organizational groupings (e.g. materials).

bf96d921de Add extra braces around std::array initializers
This appears to be a bug in older clang and gcc compilers where they
gave a warning asking for an extra unnecessary set of braces around the
initializer of std::array. See for example

https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21629
https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=25137

I don't think newer compilers give this warning, but we still support
some older compilers it happens on, so we live with it.

fc65bc5336 Fix failure with UnitTestSerializationDataSet
For demonstration purposes, I added a vector field to one of the data
sets (the cow nose). However, the serialization test was not expecting a
field of that type and therefore had not compiled the case to serialize
that type of field, which caused a failure. Fixed the problem by
instructing the test to also consider the correct type of vector fields.

5db762ee71 Refactor topology mappings to clarify meaning.
The `From` and `To` nomenclature for topology mapping has been confusing for
both users and developers, especially at lower levels where the intention of
mapping attributes from one element to another is easily conflated with the
concept of mapping indices (which maps in the exact opposite direction).

These identifiers have been renamed to `VisitTopology` and `IncidentTopology`
to clarify the direction of the mapping. The order in which these template
parameters are specified for `WorkletMapTopology` have also been reversed,
since eventually there may be more than one `IncidentTopology`, and having
`IncidentTopology` at the end will allow us to replace it with a variadic
template parameter pack in the future.

Other implementation details supporting these worklets, include `Fetch` tags,
`Connectivity` classes, and methods on the various `CellSet` classes (such as
`PrepareForInput` have also reversed their template arguments. These will need
to be cautiously updated.

The convenience implementations of `WorkletMapTopology` have been renamed for
clarity as follows:

```
WorkletMapPointToCell --> WorkletVisitCellsWithPoints
WorkletMapCellToPoint --> WorkletVisitPointsWithCells
```

The `ControlSignature` tags have been renamed as follows:

```
FieldInTo --> FieldInVisit
FieldInFrom --> FieldInMap
FromCount --> IncidentElementCount
FromIndices --> IncidentElementIndices
```

eaf87e4519 Remove special ArrayHandleMultiplexer template case
There was a special case for ArrayHandleMultiplexer where if you gave it
just one type it would treat that as a value type rather than an array
to support and instead provide a default list of types. However, GCC 4.8
is having trouble compiling the code to create the default list, the
semantics are confusing, and the more I think about it the less likely I
think we will need this functionality. So, just getting rid of that.

0e15a1116c Enable writing to ArrayHandleCast
Previously, `ArrayHandleCast` was considered a read-only array handle.
However, it is trivial to reverse the cast (now that `ArrayHandleTransform`
supports an inverse transform). So now you can write to a cast array
(assuming the underlying array is writable).

One trivial consequence of this change is that you can no longer make a
cast that cannot be reversed. For example, it was possible to cast a simple
scalar to a `Vec` even though it is not possible to convert a `Vec` to a
scalar value. This was of dubious correctness (it is more of a construction
than a cast) and is easy to recreate with `ArrayHandleTransform`.

6d37ce9453 Remove invalid PortalType
Several ArrayHandles (actuall Storage implementations) had a fake portal
type that only defined invalid value types and no Get/Set methods. The
idea was to quickly identify when using a read-only array for writing.
However, this was more trouble than it was worth as the compiler just
gives an incomprehensible error and it is hard to track down the actual
value.

Now actually define some type even if it is never used.

e473cb4bbc Fix PointLocatorUniformGrid for points on boundary
When creating the search structures in PointLocatorUniformGrid, a point
outside the boundary would be given an invalid bin id. These points
could never be found. Generally, this is not a big deal for points
outside of the boundary, but it could be a problem for points on the
boundary. A point on the boundary could be taken as outside the
boundary. Since the boundary is chosen from limits of the points, some
will almost always be on the boundary.

Fix this problem by clamping all points to the nearest valid bin. This
could cause a problem if the user has selected a boundary excluding a
lot of points. All those points could be grouped to the same edge bins,
but that is probably not a great idea anyway.

The UnitTestCudaArrayHandleFancy was failing because it was

Because these were called on different architecture, it is
possible that they will not be bit-wise exact. Add a little
bit of tolerance to the check to avoid false failures for
this reason.
